Pope Francis thinks gun manufacturers can be Christian in name only or something

I wonder who manufactured that gun

I wonder who manufactured these guns

“It makes me think of … people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufactureweapons. That leads to a bit of distrust, doesn’t it?” he said. The comment was met by a round of applause. He continued by slamming investors in the global arms industry, stating, “duplicity is the currency of today … they say one thing and do another.”

…Some are calling the Pope’s comments hypocritical as both he and Vatican city are protected around the clock by an armed security force that carries semi-automatic and automatic weapons.

I have no trust in this pope. Since his elevation I have known that the chance of getting any sort of Christian response from him was nil. Look at the stuff snowden released that showed how much influence the US gov’t exerted on the process and there is no doubt in my mind that this pope is nothing but a puppet of the radical left.

  • Thermblog

He also criticized the Allies for not bombing railway lines to concentration camps in WWII. He must either believe that Christians should only buy arms from non-Christians or that they should start arms industries only in response to emergency situations. Both ideas are ridiculous.

Disclaimer: Reporting on the Vatican is subject to journalese interpretation so it’s never clear that the headlines accurately reflect what he said. I am responding to headlines here because I am lazy and good for nothing.

Being called unchristian by this Pope might be a badge of honour for some Christians.

  • Clink9

He better fire all his guards and get rid of the popemobile.

  • Dana Garcia

Liberal gun hypocrites with their own private security are the worst, but they are not unusual.

The Pope will need his well armed Swiss Guard if he gets his wish of open borders to Africa and millions of Muslims.

The Pope should only be allowed to protect himself with blowing-bubbles and doves.

  • Billy Bob Thornton

I agree with the Pope because those that call themselves Christian are usually the ones that support the death penalty, attacking other nations, war on demand and have forgotten the commandment “Thou Shalt Not Kill”.

I call such people that advocate for war as fake Christians. Real Christians are supposed to follow the commandments and forgive and actually care about human life. Such people re-write history on what it means to be Christian. The bible states exactly what the followers are supposed to be like.

Fake Christians are not religious, but use their politics and religion together. That is the worst form of belief.

I don’t think you understand Christianity very well if you contend that it is, or should be, a suicide pact.

  • Billy Bob Thornton

But the church does have a history of being aligned with fascists from the war.

Of course the church does not pass policies.

They are supposed to push for peace. Peace and unity is what the church has stood for in its history for a long time.

I do not understand why people are so angry.

The fact is even during that financial crisis in 2008 the church stood firmly around the fact that they wanted policies that would help people after the Bush administration got out of office. Remember, they ruined the economy massively.

The church can talk about matters, but that doesn’t mean they have the power.

God will take good care of you,
Just do as I say – don’t do as I do

  • God. I wish he would stop it already. The people need theology from a pope. They don’t need random comments about social events of the day.

  • The Butterfly

In the same speech he also condemned the Allies for not bombing the Nazi railroads enough.

    This pope is senile.

    • mobuyus

I think he has been shitting in the woods too long with catholic bears.

  • Norman_In_New_York

There are only so many times I can post “The Vatican Rag” within a given period so I will take a break for now, but please keep Prof. Tom Lehrer in your thoughts.

  • tom_billesley

Christian in name only? Just like a lot of priests then.

  • canminuteman

Pope John Paul 11 was inspiring enough that he mad me (almost) want to start practicing the religion I was born into. This pope is just a blithering idiot.

  • FactsWillOut

I wonder how many weapons manufacturers the vatican has it’s paws into?
