Quebec tables new religious neutrality bill banning face coverings

Quebec is again taking steps aimed at barring public servants from wearing face-covering religious garments at work, and preventing members of the public from covering their faces while receiving government services.

However, Bill 62 – the neutrality bill tabled Wednesday in the National Assembly – doesn’t go as far as the previous Parti Québécois government’s efforts to ban all religious symbols.

The province would accommodate those symbols under certain conditions…

It just boggles the mind that no one at any level, provincial or federal, is able to muster up the courage to ban all face coverings any where in public. This should have been the case in Quebec of all places, since any silly ruling from the Silly Court of Canada would be met with invoking the not withstanding clause.

Then they would need to use Section 33 of the Canadian Charter of Right’s. The notwithstanding clause.

The reason the niqab should be banned in public, and restricted to the home, is that there is no guarantee that the veil cannot slip off and thus bare the woman’s face. This must be prevented absolutely.
