Robert De Niro to NYU Grads: ‘You’re F*cked’

Robert De Niro opened his commencement speech to the graduates of Neew York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with a simple message: “Tisch graduates, you made it… and you’re fucked.”

In a brutally honest address, De Niro proceeded to tell the prospective artists and actors that unlike the graduates of the business or nursing schools, they face an uphill battle and almost certain unemployment.

“A new door is opening for you, a door to a lifetime of rejection. It’s inevitable,” the Oscar-winning actor said. “How do you cope with it? I hear that Valium and Vicodin work.”

So now they offer degrees in arts for aspiring artists and actors. I used to think it was based on talent, either you have it or you don’t. However in light of what passes for art nowadays no talent nor degree is required.

Tisch of course was one of the titans of NYC real estate who lent his name to the arts to look classy. Tisch graduated NYU at age 18 and went on to Wharton MBA. Decidedly ironic in a way.
