SAINT PETERSBURG, Russia — A group of supporters of Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday presented a bust of the strongman depicting him in the heroic guise of a Roman emperor.

“We wanted to immortalize Vladimir Putin as a conqueror and statesman who returned Crimea to Russia,” said Andrei Polyakov, the head of a group of Cossacks outside the northwestern city of Saint Petersburg.

Cossacks trace their origins back to horsemen who guarded Tsarist Russia’s borders and are fiercely loyal to the Kremlin…

  • Now wasn’t that nice of them.

I knew you’d be around, gloating!

Napoleon portrayed in a Bartolini bronze bust as a Roman Emperor and that was followed up by a Canova statue of Napoleon as Mars, the Peacemaker. I guess Vlad will be stripping off soon.

I doubt that. Vladimir is looking a tad pudgy and – dare I say It? – older of late. But I do foresee the day when he’ll be strapping a large fake dick to his leg in order to (inadvertently) reveal his outstanding virility to a gullible Russian public. Remember GWB getting out of that helicopter way back when, and the female population swooning in orgasmic response?

When muscles matter, dick dominates. Seriously…

Why is Putin smiling? Because he’s a glad he ate her!

What was that Russian word for Caesar? Oh yes, “Tsar”.

    • Frau Katze

Exactly. Caesar (pronounced like German Kaiser, which also come from Caesar) became Czar, then Tsar.

    Just for info.
The top picture is misleading. The photo in situ at the link suggests it is approximately life size, not supersized.

Why not portray him as Ivan the Terrible?

    • Maurixio Garcia Sanchez

      How about the unabomber.

    • I want Arnold Schwarzenegger to play me in the movies.

        • Dude has really let himself go, eh?

          • Justin St.Denis

Apparently. I never thought I’d see the day when I could honestly say I have a better body than Arnold. What a shame.

          • Petey

He let himself go when he screwed around on Maria Shriver – what the hell was he thinking?

          • If you’re going to screw something, at least let it be a bordering country.

          That hurts.

  • Nope.

Nothing resembling cult of personality here.

  • Tasteful. Understated.

    • They wanted to capture my superabundant humility.

      • Justin St.Denis

Your superlative modesty, your outstanding spirit of selfless giving, your fantastic ability to sacrifice yourself selflessly for your people, the incredible depths of your humility.

Vlad, I could do this for a living. Are you hiring? I would love to be known as “the Man from Vlad”. 😉

It is fitting in a way since Russians did inherit the Imperial Regalia from the Roman Empire (Byzantines) after the fall of Constantinople.
