UN could give the green light to EU plans for Libya military action

The United Nations is considering giving a green light to European military action against people smugglers in Libya’s territorial waters and even within ports and harbours along the Libyan coast, The Telegraph has learned.

British diplomats are drafting a UN Security Council resolution that would allow the use of military force by European navies to combat the human trafficking gangs that currently operate with impunity in the increasingly unruly North African country.

Screw the UN you gutless fools. Just send whatever military power is required and do whatever is necessary. Hint – it involves among other things that the bad guys if there are any left do not want you to come back again.

Isn’t EU military action what got us into this mess in the first place? I’ve got nothing against military action in principle, I’m just not sure that the powers that be are smart enough to do any thing right.

    • I am not sure it is military action that caused the current mess – rather I would say that the action that did occur was too limp-handed: that is why it resulted in a mess.

The currentr mess is the result of wishful thinking, in believing that “tame” muslims can be embedded in the solution to the problem.

More military action? Didn’t the West already destroy Libya? The people obviously don’t want to have a Western puppet. Let the people decide. Russia never wanted Gaddafi out so this plan must include all Security Council members.

    • Nonsense. Force is necessary to deal with these gangsters. They are a national security issue for Europe. Think, for once.

Well, AIDS-infected sub-Saharans can be looked upon as biological weapons, and those without AIDS are simply camouflage.
Enemy combatants, the lot of them.

Why the fuck does anyone need the UN`s green light?
The EU, UN, NATO, all part of one big global clusterfuck. The sooner they disappear, the better.

    • tom_billesley

The UN gave the creation of the state of Israel a green light. Ever since then they have wanted to purge their corporate memory of that decision.

There was a time not so long ago that Libya was a functional state with a rising standard of living which could police its own borders.

Too bad NATO’s humanitarian bombs left a void filled with extremists and people smugglers. Took out the Great Man-Made River project ending plans to bring life to the Sahara desert. What exactly did the leaders of France and Italy expect would happen or where they just too busy trying to appropriate all of Libya’s oil?

Surely if the will exists to bomb a country back to the stone age then the will can be found to stop the waves of migrants coming from Libya. No? Why not?
