Fox thinks he’s a dog

Orphaned fox Dinozzo plays with Ziva the collie in Oberscheld, Germany.

The fox cub was rescued after a road accident killed his mum and has now bounced back to health โ€“ thanks to a caring collie. He was inspected by a vet and was adopted by animal lovers Werner and Angelika Schmaing from Oberscheld, Germany. Under their watchful care the fox has gone from strength to strength โ€“ and has now begun to believe it is one of the dogs.

Very cute, but anyone raising poultry would not want it in the area.

    • Waffle

Alain, my thoughts exactly. You might not want him guarding the hen house! ๐Ÿ˜‰

And he’ll be cute and dog-like until he matures. Then he’ll rip your hand off. There have been some efforts in Russia to domesticate foxes. But as the wild is bred out, they take on domesticated physical features, as well, if also showing more tolerance and even pseudo-affection of their owners. Rats. Such cute little guys. Would be great if they would just curl up in our laps!

With all nastiness going on these days, it’s nice to see a sweet story like this.

Dinozzo better learn to lower his tail before he enters a Muslim neighbourhood.
He is just asking for trouble. It will be his own fault.

  • lolwut?

Still a wild animal at it’s core. This won’t end well if there are small pets around.

That link won’t work for me for some reason ๐Ÿ™

The fox thinks the collie is his mom <3. The people who took him in also took in two piglets.

    • I like pigs. I don’t eat pork.

      • Rosenmops

I stopped eating pork after seeing the movie Babe years ago.

        • Apparently they make lovely pets. People say they’re a lot like dogs.

          I don’t eat dog either.

In other words you’re just great a big softie inside? ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • Heh. I’m terribly sentimental in some ways.

            {resists urge to make vulgar cat joke}

          • I can’t think what you mean, but then I know you are a very cunning linguist, so I suppose it’s some sort of play on words.

    ‘Fox Thinks He’s a Dog’

He’s just lonely and enjoys her attention.

It’s the same as when men act like feminists.

Stop with the anthropomorphism, nerds. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Frau Katze

It’s a mammal thing. I’ve read many stories of female mammals “adopting” the young of some other mammal.

      • Yusuf_Al_Kafir

I recall stories of those same adoptive mammal mothers producing milk for their new ‘baby’.

One day a fox was in our driveway and wasn’t running away from people – they’re usually very shy – and that’s a sign of rabies. I went and got the shotgun, sighted the bead, and then right as I was about to pull the trigger noticed something around it’s neck: a red bandana. Clearly it was someone’s pet so we let it go. Turned out it belonged to the neighbors across the road and it had gotten off its leash – they treat it just like a dog and it acts like one. You have to have a special permit to domesticate wild animals here or the game warden will lock you up, so don’t try this without looking into your local laws.

Why not? My beagle thinks he’s a housecat.
