Melbourne hospital agrees to female-only doctor requests after Muslim patient complains

Monash Health, one of Victoria’s largest hospitals, will change its policies to allow patients to demand female-only care after a Muslim woman wearing a full-length niqab complained of discrimination.

Ziarata Zia, who believes it is a sin to be seen without a niqab or be touched by a man other than her husband or immediate family, lodged a complaint at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal following an antenatal visit at a Monash clinic two years ago, The Age reports.

…Ms Zia, who moved from Afghanistan to Melbourne in 2010 and who does not speak English, said in a statement she was no longer scared to ask for a female doctor. “Healthcare is really important to me and my family but so are my religious beliefs. I don’t want to be forced to choose between them,” she said.

  • This too sick, what a surrender.

A reasonable solution would be to ship her back to her home country, but the West abandoned reason after WW II.

always the same story with muslims: give us more, more, more. And of course our dying societies give in most of the time. I wonder what the chances of her learning any English are?

    • Minicapt

It is unnecessary in these enlightened times.

Islam is like having a blackmailer – they always want more. The blackmail is a threat to dissolve our own penchant for toleration.

  • Clink9

We are the biggest retards to allow this.

I guess Aussies aren’t as smart as I thought they were if they have human rights tribunals.

Let’s hope there’s only male surgeons

  • Patients should be free to ask for whichever nurse or physician they feel comfortable with.

That being said, this is less about a female patient feeling more at ease with a female doctor than it is about tolerating emotional retardation. That this woman would even make the claim of discomfort is such rot.

I hope I am free to request a physician who got their degree in a first world country and is not a Muslim.

      • Not every foreign-trained doctor/nurse is a bad one, especially these days.

My mother was a nurse (since retired). When she immigrated to Canada, her Commonwealth education, years of experience and English language skills were considered sub-par by nurses my mother has had to correct.

From my perspective the choice, sweetie, is simple!

My religion prevents me from being treated by any female or nurse that isn’t a Rhodes Scholar and isn’t at least as beautiful as Kate Upton or Scarlett Johannson. Please ensure that I am provided with such essential medical care.

Tell her it is blasphemy for her to use western Jewish medicine and that she should just go home and die. If she refuses then stone her for insulting the prophet…

And she can put down her cell phone that was invent in Israel by the same jews allah call pigs.
She doesn’t mind the welfare check funded by jews and christians .

  • pdxnag

Denial of special treatment is not actionable discrimination, in theory.

  • JohnfromToronto

If there is an emergency, make her wait for a female doctor. Then she’ll sue because she didn’t get immediate treatment.

  • AlexanderGalt

Perfectly reasonable request. After all misandry isn’t a crime, is it?
