Trudeau is confused, he thinks he is leader of the NDP.

I absolutely loathe the use of sandbox words in the political arena, and ‘fairness’ is near or at the top of the list.

When I turned 12, my parents got me a Remington electric shaver. They were big in the 1970s, and I was sprouting in every way an adolescent boy can sprout, including my beard. I was so disappointed when I opened my present that it showed. My dad asked whether I liked it, and in the word-salad of mutterings of my response I think I said something about it not being ‘fair’.

Patiently, my father explained that I needed that Remington; every man needed his own Remington. And that “….Life isn’t fair, because fair is mushy talk. In real life, you look for justice. ‘Fair’ is somebody else’s idea of Justice – usually for themselves and always at the expense of someone else, probably you. Fuck fair and fairness. Law and order, justice, equality – that’s what to look for in life. If you want fair, listen to the Weather Channel.”

Dad was blunt, but I wasn’t stupid.

In those days, parents used give the “life isn’t fair” talk all the time. Guess it’s gone out of style.

My dad’s worked so well on me that I recycled it with every one of my own kids in turn. Worked like a charm. They roll their eyes at the sound of the word “fair” coming out of an adult mouth.

          My kid’s sprouting.
          He’s backed off.
I told him the same thing my Dad told me.
Once you start shaving you can’t stop.

I’ve had to add the “this house is not a democracy, it’s a dictatorship” speech as well. More eye rolling.

      Weather Channel ain’t fair, either.
      They’ve nought a clue.

    He sounds like Obama.

Justin Trudeau’s announcement was the lead item on CTV News channel, with pro-Liberal cheerleader Dan Matheson breathlessly making the announcement as thee lead story on his show. BellMedia and CTV News will be flacking for the federal Liberal during the forthcoming September election.
