Why Muslims are the world’s fastest-growing religious group

The expected growth of Islam around the world is perhaps the most striking finding in the recent Pew Research Center report projecting the future of religious groups. Indeed, Muslims will grow more than twice as fast as the overall world population between 2010 and 2050 and, in the second half of this century, will likely surpass Christians as the world’s largest religious group.

While the world’s population is projected to grow 35% in the coming decades, the number of Muslims is expected to increase by 73% – from 1.6 billion in 2010 to 2.8 billion in 2050. In 2010, Muslims made up 23.2% of the global population. Four decades later, they are expected to make up about three-in-ten of the world’s people (29.7%).

By 2050, Muslims will be nearly as numerous as Christians, who are projected to remain the world’s largest religious group at 31.4% of the global population.

The main reasons for Islam’s growth ultimately involve simple demographics. To begin with, Muslims have more children than members of the seven other major religious groups analyzed in the study. Each Muslim woman has an average of 3.1 children, significantly above the next-highest group (Christians at 2.7) and the average of all non-Muslims (2.3). In all major regions where there is a sizable Muslim population, Muslim fertility exceeds non-Muslim fertility…

I wouldn’t hold my breath. What had been a 5-7 child per mother birthday is falling in the few Muslim countries which are modernising. And never forget the Muzzies propensity for killing each other. In small numbers at the moment but that could change. Nor should we forget that, in the absence of oil and autocracy Muslim and failed state are synonyms.

Plus, and this matters, technology is improving and battle druids are not far away.

    • Blacksmith

      Battle druids? you mean droids?
The rest of you r statement Is certainly hopeful, I hope and pray you are correct.

      • Jay Currie

Curse you auto-correct; but battle druids might be fun as well.

        • Blacksmith

Yes they would be fun, and I bet they would have no more use for pisslamist than we do.

  • Sharkibark

Wow…. Did Pew finally read Mark Steyn?

  • Alain

No, the reason is not demographics; it is Islam that does not allow anyone to leave and forces conversions through the threat of death. It is only because of this that Islam has managed to maintain and grow its numbers.

    • Frau Katze

      That part helps too.

  • Dana Garcia

Islam’s acceptance of child marriage means that girls are transformed into breeding stock at the earliest possible age. Also, polygamy puts the emphasis on women as breeder units.

    • Clausewitz

Nailed it Dana. To a Muslim male a woman is not human, just a repository for sperm, and someone to wash the blood out of his rags that he wears.

  • Canadian

They make more kids, and they kill all non-muzzies.

  • Rosenmops

I can’t stand reading about this. Too upsetting.

    • Frau Katze

      I know what you mean.

  • WalterBannon

Who could have ever predicted that one day we would really NEED to have a nuclear war????

  • just a thought

I would take those estimates with a grain of salt. Situations change. And, given that Muslims are as much at each other’s throats as they are ours, attrition rates could easily put the brakes on, or even reverse those trends.

    • Dana Garcia

True, the Iran-Iraq war in the 80s deleted a million or so. It’s a cheerful thought, in a dark sort of way.

  • mauser 98

and they have the most first cousins…lots of inbreeding

    • Blacksmith

I hope it continues long enough for them to breed themselves out of existence.

  • Mickey Oberman

Muslims have large families and depend on non Muslims to pay for raising them.
Muslims commit wholesale slaughter of non Muslims whenever they get an opportunity.
Muslims force conversion and always have.
Muslims will kill any Muslim having the least doubt about Islam and about remaining Muslim.

  • David Murrell

There is the saying we all know: “Beware of long-run projections”.

Yes, Muslims have a higher birth rates. But we are experiencing a decline in people going to church, mostly to liberal churches. And we should forecast more and more children, from Muslim countries, rejecting Islam, based on the violence. A lot of observers miss this — that the reputation of Islam has been so hurt but the sewer of violence worldwide, many people leave the religion. The corporate establishment media support Islam, but the new social media despises it. And Mr. Currie on this thread mentions that fertility rates are falling, especially in Islamic countries. Who wants to bring a baby into a sewer?

      A muslim.
