The Feminist Fantasy of Women in Combat

President Obama seems hellbent on forcing the women of the U.S. military into direct combat units at great potential risk both to themselves and their fellow soldiers.

Obama supplicants in the military have been cowed by radical feminist ideology. They are promoting change for the sake of ideology, not because it is actually needed.

  • Uncle_Waspy

Conservative motto: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Progressive motto: If something works, it’s due to white cisgendered patriarchal oppression of designated victim groups, and it must be smashed to pieces before being restructured so as to ensure diversity and equality for all individuals.

What a mess! Obviously, the military will be required to significantly lower its standards to achieve the desired quotas, just as police and firefighters were forced to do.

As Mr. Steyn says….If Obama was working for the other side, what would he do differently?

    • If it means lowering the physical standard of qualification then maybe it isn’t such a great idea…

      • winniec

Diversity means that a lot of mediocrities are promoted above their levels of competence. This destroys morale and causes enormous attrition and the need to rehire and train replacements.
Diversity is a costly, counterproductive failure.

        • Stronger than Dirt

I have many first hand experiences too … it’s bs.

        • Blacksmith

          VERY well said!

      • MannieP

That’s a considerable understatement. If the physical standards are lowered, the price will be paid in blood. Blood of the Poor Bloody Infantry who pays the price for upper level folly.

If standards are selectively lowered for women, they won’t be able to do the same jobs as men in the same unit. Men will have to carry their load, will consider them as second class soldiers, and will treat them like shit. The price for that will be paid in blood, too.

        • winniec

The physical standards are ALREADY lower for military women. In Canada, they simply overlook that the women failed the standard or are incapable of passing it and they PROMOTE THEM ANYWAY. Demoralizing.
No woman officer candidate has passed the physical standard for the US Marine combat qualification.

          • MannieP

They have been lowered for the general military, but not the specialized requirements for the combat arms. I expect them to be, soon. The price will be paid in blood.

      • Clausewitz

        Ya think?????

  • Clink9

Just put entire units of women together. Be like all the teeny tiny women cops in Toronto always calling for backup.

    • k1992

the fact that on *average* men are physically stronger than women – there are plenty of strong women who can squat 300 pounds and bench 2 plates or more – is not that really that important in today’s warfare. As Ann Coulter said, adapting a familiar saying, ‘God made man and woman; [Samuel] Colt made them equal’

      • Jabberwokk

True enough but then your comparing woman who train to average men. Or it looks that way.

I will likely never be able to beat Rhonda Rhousey but I don’t train like her. That said Shes never going to beat Brock Lesnar.

There’s also the Psychological advantages that men have over women in combat. It is possible to get a woman to tap into her killer instinct but it’s just so much more commonly natural in men. Men have a greater natural ability to focus on a task and tune out everything else(such as sniping, or issuing orders in the middle of a fire fight).

There are exceptions of course but they are just that exceptions.

Women have a strength in beauty that can never be matched by men.
Men have beauty in strength that will never be matched by women.

Our differences should be celebrated and respected. That doesn’t make either less than the other.

        • disqus_W6sfZCiOd8

          Well said.

      • Stronger than Dirt

“The study found that a particularly high percentage of women who served in combat roles suffered physical harm during theirservice and will suffer for the rest of their lives from ruptured discs, stress fractures in the pelvis, uterine prolapse and more,” No combat for you babe.

      • Clink9
      • MannieP

A 90 pound ruck weighs the same if you are a 170 pound man or a 98 pound woman. A machinegun doesn’t get lighter. The Cole was almost lost because the women couldn’t perform some of the damage control functions. Men had to do them, using a quicker rotation than if all crew had been available, and the men were starting to burn out.

There are places for women in combat, though. A female f(r)iend of mine used to go on patrol with the guys in Iraq. They liked to have a woman along because they could interact with the Arab women. There were not many women who were allowed out with the guys.

      • canminuteman

Yeah, that’s great until you need to change a tire on your ten ton truck, or open the engine compartment on your tank.
A 155 projectile weighs almost 100 lbs. I’ve seen gunners carry four at a time (two in each hand with a finger through the ring on the plug. We have women in the artillery now, all they can do is drive trucks, which means the men have to work that much harder.

      • G

“- is not that really that important in today’s warfare”

Really? You and I must have been in vastly different armies.

Why don’t you carry a full pack, provisions for three days, comms equipment and rifle for a few hours on a march over uneven ground & through muskeg. Then building a bridge until after dark while slogging in mud dragging beams and shit around.

Yeah, nothing physical about that. Nope not at all.

If you’re sitting in an office typing maybe it’s easy to boast about how physical strength doesn’t matter. When you actually have to get your hands dirty it turns out to be something else.

When you are talking about some steroid gobbling she-hulk freak from a bodybuilding magazine or some narcissistic female jock who is lucky enough to actually make a living wage employed in a gym where she can work out all day yes they may be just as strong or stronger than many guys. But they aren’t the norm.

        • G

Besides the Israelis tried women in combat roles in the late 60s and 70s and scaled back on it.

When the Arabs found they were fighting women the thought of surrendering to a woman and being DEFEATED by a woman was so repellent to them that they fought harder, often to the death. So instead of having arabs who ran up the white flag at an instant’s notice like they did in the gulf war you had desperate men whop would rather die than lose face. – “real good”.

    • Gary

True, I saw the stats cited during a media report where the Mini-Cop girls have a Back-up request rate of 90% for the same 9-1-1 call that males answer with a 35% back-up call rate.
Once this insanity hits the Fire Dept. it would be the epitome of justice for Barbara Hall to be caught in a fire on the 4th floor and she sees a little girl come to rescue her but can’t get her down the stairs .

Liberal progressives always want change as long as it doesn’t come into their wealthy white Neighbourhood , such as half-way homes and Injection sights . Bob Rae was all for these support centre’s in communities except near his home in Bloor West Village just like David Miller in High Park that wanted lots of these homes in Parkdale away from his house.

      • Clink9

Yup. Social engineering. They had to drop the fire test down to a “once you get over this minimum hurdle it’s on to the next test kids.”

Or should I say men and women in their forties and fifties. They will look like the old Tim Conway fireman when they finish.

  • just a thought

from “Women Don’t Belong In Combat”

“Raza Sagi, a former infantry regiment commander, points to high rates of
serious injury among women serving in combat units
    , and to involvement
of radical political groups behind the scenes of the campaign for combat
    service by women

  • Millie_Woods

I have to agree with this. When you look at the number of abortions taking place you realize that woman are the most prolific and indiscriminate killers in western societies. It’s time to put that bloodlust to work killing people that actually need killing. You want third trimester abortion, you want affirmative action, safe spaces, free contraceptives and an end to microagression? Step up, you’re welcome to work in this male-dominated field.

  • winniec

    Diversity never won a war.

    • The Goat

The Left is hell-bent on losing.

      • Clausewitz

Harry Read is their poster boy. “We lost the war, the Surge is a complete failure”.

  • The Goat

“Our diversity, not only in our army, but in our country, is a
    strength,” Casey said.

OMG, he actually believes this crap.

  • simus1

The left want to use the “women in combat” campaign for their own purposes.

Their motives do not involve strengthening or improving the army for the men and women in place when the steel starts to fly.

    • Clausewitz

The left wants women on the front line so that when they are captured they can capitulate completely because, well you know women’s lives are more dear than men. Get them whatever they want.

      • Gettingby

This whole issue is pure nonsense. In the Utopia the leftists are building wars will never happen so displacing thousands of men and replacing them with women, especially in the high paying leadership roles, is the real goal and will have no negative effect on combat which will never happen anyways.

        • Clausewitz

This is why the US Forces are a mere shadow of their former selves. Too many high ranking women officers means officers in charge with zero combat experience. This just gets people dead fast.

  • Stronger than Dirt

If capable , fine. If not then a support role. They will kill a lot of men just to rescue women – guaranteed.

    • MannieP

This is why the Israelis pulled women out of front line combat. They found that a wounded woman takes more men out of combat than does a wounded man.

      • Stronger than Dirt

        Psychologically too.

  • Hard Little Machine

It’s more of a legal fiction than anything else. In the US only about 15% of active forces are rifle toting grunts. The rest are support, logistics and administrative staff. In Iraq one of the most dangerous jobs in the war was truck driver. Why? Because trucks were targeted. If you were a female truck driver or mechanic then you were far more likely to get wounded than a man sitting in the rear counting toilet paper.

    • MannieP

The issue is not women in the military. They are already there, and we rely on them to make up the numbers. The issue is women in the Combat Arms; Artillery, Armor, and Infantry.

      • winniec

The issue is percentages. The percentage of women went WAY DOWN as soon as Canada went to war in Afghanistan.
It’s now down from 13% (high) to 8% women in CF. There’s a cultural reaction to being the military. No incentives will tempt women to join.

  • tom_billesley
  • DMB

Lowering the combat training standards to allow woman into real combat roles will have ramifications mainly there will be more female causalities in battles and more female soldiers will end up suffering PTSD. High standards are designed to keep soldiers safe.

  • seaoh

UUUGH! President Oblow hard thinks football is too dangerous for High school boys but combat is perfectly fine for someone elses daughter. 🙁 . I doubt we can ever win a war again truely sad.

  • pop

If four soldiers captured, one female. They’ll go the female to crack the three males.

  • El Martyachi

Just make a separate exclusively leftwing military already.. would make things a lot simpler.

  • Justin St.Denis

Women make great dentists, fabulous doctors, meticulous welders and incredible accountants. Firefighting, OTOH, should be left to men. Ditto actual combat soldiering. Some things don’t need explanation.

  • winniec

The Canadian Forces are actually ‘handicapping’ women and those minorities they wish to promote with handicaps of an additional 13 points. This is preposterous. Many military personnel are discovering this inequity and are disgusted by it. Their choice at being passed over and humiliated is to resign. The morale in the CF is plummeting. Inferior candidates are being given double and triple promotions. Smells, doesn’t it?

  • winniec

The only way to increase the number of women in the CF is to CONSCRIPT WOMEN. Norway is actually doing that this year. It will be interesting how many women refuse and try to get out of it!
Women are having a cultural reaction to joining up. They don’t want the regimentation, dirt or rude, rough environment.

  • Tanya

All it will take is for women to start coming home in body bags at numbers that even defence officials will be slow to accept to change public perception. Women in hand to hand combat with a male opponent with about 20-30 pounds over the woman, whatever the training is, that woman is dead meat.
