Canadian gender equality under threat from ‘society of immigration’: Former PM Kim Campbell

EDMONTON — Former prime minister Kim Campbell told a University of Alberta audience Wednesday the equality of women is a Canadian value that has found little purchase in a “society of immigration.”

Some individuals in Canadian society, she said, come from cultures that don’t believe in gender equality.

“I’m always very concerned about cultural practices which suggest that women bear responsibility for the sexual behaviour of men,” she said, referring to coverup garments like the burka.

And the YJA was such a wonderful success, Kim. Thanks a lot for nothing.

Said the affirmative action Prime Minister.
Who also sat on David Milgaard’s file for years when she was Justice Minister.
      Bugger off, Kim.

That’s not very inclusive. We must embrace our Muslim brothers, learn from them and bask in the vibrancy. And finally someone will now make me sandwiches. What’s not to like?

  • Alain

Yes, it is easy to thrash her based on her past record, but I am willing to give her the benefit of being a slow learner. In any case she deserves some credit for speaking the truth on the subject, something I have not heard from the present government and most certainly not from the NDP or Liberals.

    • Doug Kursk

This is true…what sticks in the craw of many is that she was part of an elite group that never found this courage when they had the power to do something about the growing menace in the 80’s and 90’s.

      • Alain

Yes, I am well aware and my comment was not to defend her per se. Perhaps I didn’t express it clearly, but my point is that this is a truth that needs to be stated and it isn’t being stated openly by our government (federal or provincial) nor by the NDP or Liberals. This fact needs to be a talking point in the political arena, since recognition of this facts begs for major changes in our immigration system.

        • Doug Kursk

The federal parties are all playing a dangerous game for voter blocs, with the very lives of their fellow citizens put in jeopardy because of their fool hardy policies.

No doubt those most intimately involved will never have to face the music for their actions: their wealth, status and holdings will allow them to be very far away from the crime scene when the excrement hits the fan.

Justin Trudeau has thrown the Muslim women under the bus.

      • Islamonauseated

He is throwing Canadians under the Muslim bus.

She’s only pointing out the issue now because she sees it’s going to direct affect her.
    Stupid tw*t.

  • Jay Currie

Kim was and is many things; but she was never stupid.

Seeing things clearly is a key piece to resisting the craziness which is Canadian immigration policy. Not all cultures are capable of becoming Canadian. The ones which cannot need to be excluded.

    Kim recogizes that.

    Which helps.

    • David Murrell

Yes, I supported the Reform party in 1993, which helped overthrew the Kim Campbell PCs, so I was there fighting her rather nauseous pc policies. But we should give someone credit if they say or do something worthwhile down the road.

  • winniec

Kim Campbell is a fine person for saying that. The veil is misogyny.

  • cmh

    see…she’s not useless.

Notice it’s women’s rights she’s worried about. Not national security, not increased crime, not the transformation of western civilization and certainly not the 2 soldiers who were murdered by jihadists. Nope, it’s all about gender equality. I have no intention of defending feminist bitches until they start defending me. Until then, I don’t care if they’re all forced into wearing burkas.
