U.S. Catholic bishops back Obama on Iran, warn Congress against meddling

(RNS) The U.S. Catholic bishops have welcomed the Obama administration’s tentative agreement aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and their top spokesman on international affairs bluntly warned Congress against doing anything to undermine it.

The bishops “oppose efforts that seek to undermine the negotiation process or make a responsible multi-party agreement more difficult to achieve and implement,” Bishop Oscar Cantu, chairman of the bishops’ Committee on International Justice and Peace Committee, wrote to House and Senate lawmakers on Monday (April 13).

“The alternative to an agreement leads toward armed conflict, an outcome of profound concern to the Church,” said Cantu, who heads the Diocese of Las Cruces, N.M.

I sense a great falling away…

So the Catholic Bishops have come out favoring nuclear war and the genocide of Israel.

  • Jabberwokk

You would think if anyone knew who they were dealing with it would be the Catholic church.

  • Clink9

WTF do bishops know about Iran? Maybe focus on their own backyard.

  • Dana Garcia

Don’t the liberal peacenik bishops realize that nuking the Vatican is on jihadists’ to-do list?

  • Norman_In_New_York

Sadly, I have to respond again to Vatican folly.

U.S. Catholic bishops have their heads so far up the ayatollah’s asses they can’t see daylight. Check out this joint declaration from June of last year:

This is just another example of why churches, that involve themselves in politics, should be paying taxes like everyone else has to. The Catholic church is the bastion of hypocrisy that has more blood on its hands than any government in history.

If that’s what you think you’re clueless about history. Read a book. And while you’re rereading things reread the above article too. You’ll notice it is discussing the US Bishops ONLY not the Vatican.

Thanks, you saved me from posting— oh “F” off!

There are a lot of Catholic haters out there. I was born and raised Catholic but I started having issues when told from the pulpit to basically vote for Clinton. For me it is kind of like the US government, I really have an issue with the ones in charge but the average American I have no issue with. The same with the church. The hierarchy is blind to the world, the average Catholic not so much.

          • Jabberwokk

My only beef with Catholicism is the same I have with any other ism, ist, or ic out there. Any time you put anything or anyone in between someone and God it’s wrong on principle. Whether that be a pope, funny underwear, or a bunch of rules. Paul spent the entire new testament trying to weed out this mash up of old testament(works) and new testament(grace) but humans being what they are are stubborn. If one wishes to worship God in white robes and sprinkling water what is that to me? If the heart is honest toward God then it is of value, otherwise it is just another tradition of men which the Word teaches makes Gods power of no effect. In the end uniformity of belief does not equate to uniformity of expression.

I heard this song when i was very young and it has stuck with me ever since.

  • Just… what?

It’s time to acquaint American bishops with some difficult realities. Their minds might change once they realise that Iran really is led by madmen.

After everything Obama is doing to the Church in the US, these guys still don’t get it.

  • simus1

These bishops in particular are disgusting little lefty organization men with delusions of grandeur. Bet they all get a well done from Flaky Frank
Guess this little performance helps to explain why obvious practicing pagans like Shiny Pony &Co need not fear being booted out of “their church” anytime soon.

  • David

I could almost use this as an excuse for being al lapsed Catholic.

  • Everyone Else

Beware any organization with the words “justice” or “peace” in the name.

  • Blacksmith

This is another reason why I have a real problem with the faith I was raised with. What the hell are they thinking. Have they no idea what is going on in the world today? The world is at war with islam, Christians are under siege by islamist.

  • DVult

Leftie clerics begone. Their argument is that the intent of the agreement is laudable. Big deal, the reality is different and that is what we have to deal with.
