UCLA Faculty Approves Diversity Course For Future Undergrads

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The University of California, Los Angeles faculty has approved a new policy that requires most future undergraduates to take a course on diversity.

The university announced late Friday that the faculty voted for the requirement by a large margin, ending an effort that began two decades ago and was defeated three times before.

UCLA Chancellor Gene Block says in a statement that he’s pleased with the outcome because he thinks the course will help prepare students to live and work in a multicultural society…

I don’t support courses which don’t teach people anything. What needs to be enforced and encouraged are more courses about math, science, physics and computers. That way we will stay competitive. The fact is the idea of going to university was meant only for a select few. What needs to be encouraged is more people taking and going into the trades and into industries which are lacking.

University is about building good citizens.

That’s why at one time Latin was so important to understand the world. Now the important courses are covered in Gender Studies, Social Justice and in understanding Marxism.

        ?? Wynne’s joke writer again?

Gender Studies, Social Justice and in understanding Marxism and pay you to do what?
Gender Studies is newspeak for “can’ t read write add subtract
taxpayer take care of me because i am useless”

I don’t believe that you should blame people for pursuing that which they thought was going to give them a job. The fact is the people that can’t find work thought that there would be an abundance of jobs. I do not view an Arts Degree as a failed degree because any degree has a substantial amount of secondary type courses that are still beneficial. That is what people have to realize and you do gain substantial skills from them. Even though I do recommend trades and people shown what industries do need people, I also think that the people that went into the industries should not be blamed. There are simply not enough jobs to go around.

So ya I blame politicians of every stripe since for the most part politicians do share very much the same economic policies.

blame lazy apathetic voters.. we get what we deserve

          • mauser 98

OK.. think ahead ..be responsible for your decisions..then don’t complain if you can’t find a LBGQTL whatever job.

Pardon me, but how’d she get laid, and who has a kid while single in school in a dead-end “studies” program?

Stupid people do. Basically unemployable stupid people.

The university is about developing a VALID METHOD to discover UNIVERSAL TRUTH through FACT-BASED KNOWLEDGE and CRITICAL THOUGHT.
The university of today has been perverted to be a political counterculture for implementing cultural Marxism and destroying the heritage of the Enlightenment Culture of Europe. ‘Noble savages’ who hate everything European are being imported, promoted and used to reduce European civilization to rubble just as ISIS is reducing ancient cultures in Iraq to rubble in the Cradle of Civilization.

The entire education system is about building up a good Leftist voter base.

      And English.

Because in Mexifornia, we don’t appreciate how enriched we are.

As least they’re not Muslims. But more and more Muslims are arriving all the time.

A couple years ago the legislature voted Sikh diversity training for public schools. You can’t make this stuff up.

        • Frau Katze

We have a lot of Sikhs in BC. To go by the number wearing turbans (maybe 10%) they’re not really fanatical. Besides, they’re not trying to take over the world. So as a group, I prefer them to Muslims.

I don’t know what the school rules are. My kids finished long ago (grandkids just starting).

Diversity is more important than competence or so it seems to the ‘geniuses’ who promote this claptrap. The result of ‘diversity’ is that mediocrities are given handicaps of 10 – 20 % on top of their mediocre grades.
When mediocrities are hired and promoted, they remain in the system and often end up costing the system millions because of their wooden-headed blunders. In addition, many of these mediocrities will not have the social skills or people skills required to manage people and develop a true cohesive team. They lead DYSFUNCTIONALLY and cost millions more in the need constantly to rehire people to replace those who can’t stand working from mediocre idiots who don’t deserve their jobs in the first place.
    ‘Diversity’ is costly and dysfunctional.

Considering the southern border is unenforced and they’re giving H-1B visas like they’re going out of style, that might not be such a bad idea.

  • Alain

Considering that universities have become the very opposite of actual diversity, this is rather amusing. In totalitarian regimes the state dictates what is to be taught in schools including university, but here in the West we have schools and universities doing the same thing on their own and believe it or not actually collecting money for classes in propaganda and indoctrination.

  • Hard Little Machine

What nobody told them is that almost everything they teach in colleges is only useful for getting a low paying job IN college. None of these degrees have any purpose except to grow a low cost base of drudges who will teach it someone else.

A half century ago women (and a few men) took these silly courses as part of the Mrs. degree, a way to meet future first husbands. But it needs lots of capable future first husbands in the system as well. When EVERYONE is in college to look for someone to take care of them then the whole thing breaks down.
