Turkey summons Vatican ambassador over Pope’s genocide comment

Turkey Has summoned the Vatican’s ambassador in Ankara over the pope’s comments describing the massacre of Armenians a century ago as “genocide”, a senior official told Reuters on Sunday.

Turkey, which has yet to make an official statement on Pope Francis’ comments, summoned the ambassador to protest over the description of the events as “genocide”, the official said, declining to be identified.

Muslim Turkey accepts that many Christian Armenians died in clashes with Ottoman soldiers beginning in 1915, when Armenia was part of the empire ruled from Istanbul, but denies hundreds of thousands were killed and that this amounted to genocide.

All mention of Turkey’s genocidal past must really piss off Erodgen, so the international community should make issue of it as often as possible.
If he wants Turkey into the EU, then make it conditional on their admission of being the sole perpetrators of genocide against the Armenians, and ALSO admit lying about it since its occurrence.
He will never do it, but that could put sufficient internal pressure on him from his own people to distract him from creating as much trouble as he does in the world.

    • I like it;)

Or give the Christians back their nice Church at the very least.

I’m still considering what to think about Atom Egoyan.

Maybe Harper should summon the Turkish, Saudi and Qatari ambassadors to answer for their crimes.
Oh wait, he’s on their side, not ours. My bad.

  • Does Turkey think it can bully everyone into denying their bloody past?

    What rot!
