Daniel Pipes explains “the Obama doctrine” on foreign policy

Dr. Daniel Pipes of the Middle East Forum says that there’s a coherent strategy underpinning the apparent chaos we’re witnessing around the world, especially in the Middle East.

Pipes explains that the situation makes sense if viewed through the lens of an “Obama doctrine”: “Snarl at your friends, smile at your enemies.”

Part of it is incompetence on the President’s part, says Pipes, but much of what’s happening is the direct result of Obama’s anti-American ideology — and even his personal psychology.

This thought-provoking, in-depth interview covers a lot of ground: the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS, Israel, Iran, Saudi Arabia and much more.

What I worry about when people use these contexts about labeling Obama a traitor or vice versa aren’t they sowing the seeds for revolution? I say this since how is it helpful because the fact is half of the nation voted in the man. The fact is I noticed since the beginning people have labeled him a Manchurian candidate when in fact people knew he was a centrist liberal. What I have noticed over my lifetime is politics has gotten way more partisan and the media in the West in most Anglosphere nations cares more about political points than actually being honest about what should be done and gridlock is the main thing that goes on especially in the United States. The things that should be asked instead of playing culture war games, because that is what they are, is how does the US get out of its debt crisis? How does the US create close to full employment? Should the US do what is best nationally for the nation rather than left/right? Should the US have more independence? In the end, the US has to explore newer options and end partisan media of the left/right and make it more nationalistic.

Not that I defend the Democratic party because then you are still being put in groups which are left/right. That is why I support in essence nationalism because the nation is looked after and that inevitably goes to a place where bigger issues are resolved rather than bringing politics down to name-calling.

      • Obama makes your suggestions unlikely to be fulfilled.

    • Obama may be many things but he is not a centrist in any respect.

He has had plenty of opportunity to create jobs and refused to do so. Don’t put his deliberate inaction about this on anyone else but him. Such things are distractions.

Well foreign policy is either hawkish or non-interventionist. On the economy, the green aspect is just bad policy at least to me it is. It wastes resources and the best way to build an economy is my books is to tax corporations, bring back manufacturing, have a large small business base and to redistribute wealth to people for them to have large enough disposable income. It is a shame that neoliberalism has ruined all this. The US economic system is deteriorating due to corporate welfare and wealth being in too few hands. This was solidified by the 2008-09 financial crisis. As for foreign policy, the US has bases in over 100 countries around the world. How are they not overstretched? It is understandable to see how they are 18+ trillion in debt. And the very definition of centrism is when you are a combination of left and right wing policies. The Democrats do support free trade, corporate welfare, mixtures of private and public sector and are for keeping much of the same mechanisms as Reagan. So that proves they are just a party of keeping things as is. Parties change all the time but they very much to stay relevant are like their predecessors.

All good and well, but unfortunately you are preaching to the choir.

If people haven’t yet figured out that Obama is anti-American to the bone, I have no hope for them.

    • He is not an American President.

      • BillyHW

        Also not a Christian president.

So, as Dr. Pipes acknowledges Obama is a muslim. Can we also say Obama is an anti-Semite? As Melanie Phillips has said scratch beneath the surface and you will probably find anti-semites in most muslims.
