Aasif Mandvi’s new web series ‘Halal in the Family’ seeks to combat Islamophobia with comedy

WASHINGTON, DC: Aasif Mandvi’s new web series, “Halal in the Family,” is a parody of the classic American sitcom “All in the Family” and follows the lives of and an American Muslim family as they deal with different challenges faced by the Muslim community in the United States today, such as online bullying, hate networks, media bias, and “the use of anti-Muslim prejudice for political gain…

…“Halal in the Family” is partly funded by nonprofits… Injections of capital also came from organizations such as the Ford Foundation, Unbound Philanthropy, the Pillars Fund and the National Network for Arab American Communities…

…Americans’ opinions of Muslims have plummeted over the past decade. According to the Arab American Institute, only 27 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of Muslims, while 42 percent believed police are justified in using racial profiling to target Arab Americans and American Muslims…

It won’t work. The violence needs to end.  No other religion is facing these problems.  They need to look at themselves, not at us.

They obviously have a slaughter scene?

They hope to teach us to laugh at Yazidi sex-slaves, head chopping, and throwing homosexuals off the tops of tall buildings.

    • Dana Garcia

Yes, I look forward to the flying gay jokes.

    Introspection isn’t their strong suit.

I hear ya. This will make a surrealistic backdrop to the daily atrocities that make the news .

  • WalterBannon

is this being produced by Leni Riefenstahl?

  • Doone

Why not “Heil in the Family”? A sit-com about an all-American Nazi family and their daily trials and tribulations re misconceptions about their violent and supremacist ideology.

  • Dana Garcia

I see the show is funded by the Ford Foundation among others. Apparently no reputable company wants to present its advertising on it, which is showing on a website, not even on a lower tier cable channel, like al Jazeera.

    Aasif!!! 😉

    • andycanuck

      Is Aasif the show’s writer?

I wonder where they will find the humour in gang raped 9 year old Yazidi girls? or the slapstick in ritual beheadings? Maybe they will rip off my mother the car and start a sitcom called “my wife the goat”.

  • Shameless.

One might suggest cleaning’s one own house but that would just be nutty.

  • ontario john

    Yeah, muslims are a riot(literally).

  • Millie_Woods

    You’ll laugh your head off.

“Little Mosque on the Prairie” wasn’t enough.
