UK: Six Muslims arrested on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences at Dover

Six people have been arrested in Dover on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences, West Midlands Police said.

Five men and one woman were detained at approximately 8am this morning in the departure zone of the south coast port, according to the force’s Twitter feed.

Four of the men are from Birmingham, West Midlands, and in their 20s, while a 26-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman of no fixed abode were also arrested.

Nice picture but I am a pedant and I think this is the lighthouse at Beachy Head, 55 miles to the SW of Dover and just South of Eastbourne. (Try Google images with the search Beachy Head.)

The chalk cliffs of the SE of England could be called “The White Cliffs of Dover” but chalk cliffs turn up intermittently on the coast all the way from South Yorkshire, down to Kent and round to beyond Eastborne and at various places along the South Coast.

Incidentally, the only reason they are white is because the cliffs keep retreating with rockfalls cause by erosion. This is encouraged by the South East of England sinking at about one third of a mm/year because of recovery after the Ice Age. Parts of Scotland and Northern England are rising at I mm/year.
